I use 1920x1200 res in Vistax64 using IE8 64/32 bit browser. Looks fine to me (width/columns), but some other browsers show distortion. I am really not too concerned about that though. As most use IE.
Ubuntu and Debian seem to look the worst (too narrow) they seem to not translate the 972px fixed width.

Works in "Most" All Good then,
this ' monitor ' is 4200 * 3400 projected on a white wall, 8feet wide, great for video games, I got killed out and couldnt bother tabbing to the desktop
the desktop is 2600w * something, so fixed colums do looko strrangge
Ems and % are more adaptable than px, if your layout will handle the scaling difference
