Finder locked, desktop overload Mac os 10.3.9

Have accidently copied 900 or so mp3 files to desktop.
Finder opens top bar but after a long time showing busy icon does not display list of options.
Can neither select items individualy from desktop to drag to trash nor obtain view of the desktop folders from the GO option on navigator bar.
I would welcome so suggestions to solve this.
