svchost.exe is beating me up

ok so here's my headache... one of the computers in my office is having a problem... one of the svchost.exe started by SYSTEM is running at close to 100% of the proccessor, while another is dormant... what could be causing this? the OS on the machine is xp pro, sp2 is not installed... any ideas???

Start by installing XP2 (after making sure you're free of all the nasties installing that one would have prevented you from getting).
Unless you yourself installed a pretty hefty background process it could well be some malware (though it might just be a runaway normal process, but then it would be less likely to persist).

check the spelling and make sure it is , svchost.exe,and not scvhost.exe or something close
