I recently hooked up a friend's HD to my system. Turns out I got one of the nastiest forms of spyware out there right now. Using Ad-Aware I found I have VX2 modules and registry keys. Ad-Aware cannot delete it, even with a startup scan. I've tried to manually delete it from the registry, but it always seems reappear. So then I tried downloading the Ad-Aware VX2 cleaner plugin (http://www.majorgeeks.com/download4283.html) which still doesn't seem to clean this variant.
Here is my HijackThis log:

I'm still trying to get a handle on this particular infection myself, but you can start with this --
Download Ewido Security Suite from here:
http://fileforum.betanews.com/detail...e/1098736486/1
Install it, and while installing, under Additional Options, uncheck Install background guard and Install scan via context menu.
From the main Ewido screen, click on Update in the left menu, and then click the Start update button. After the update finishes (the status bar at the bottom will display Update successful), close the program (don't scan yet). If you have problems updating see here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/updates/
Note -- When you do run Ewido for the first time, you will get a warning Database could not be found!, click OK when you do, we will fix this in a moment.
Download Nailfix from here:
http://users.pandora.be/bluepatchy/nailfix.zip
Unzip it to your desktop, but do not run it yet.
Reboot into Safe Mode
Double-click on the Nailfix.bat on your desktop. Your desktop and icons will disappear and reappear, and a window should open and close very quickly -- this is normal.
Then run Ewido, and run a full system scan (you will be posting the log from the scan later when back in normal mode).
Reboot normally
Before fixing anything with hijackthis, you should put it into it's own folder. To do this, right-click in an open area on your desktop, select New, Folder; give the new folder a name (something like HJT or HijackThis), and then drag the hijackthis.exe icon that is on your desktop into this new folder.
Close any open browser windows, scan with HJT, and post a new log, along with the log from the Ewido scan.

Can you also do the following as it appears (from your log) that you do not have VX2;
Download rkfiles.zip
http://skads.org/special/rkfiles.zip
Unzip the contents to a permanent folder.
Reboot in Safe mode.
Doubleclick rkfiles.bat
It will scan for a while, so please be patient.
Wait till the DOS window closes and reboot back to normal mode.
To save some time, could you please have all the files that rkfiles finds uploaded for an online scan here;

Don't think I missed anything. After reboot I ran AdAware(since it seems to be the only program that detects the VX2)and VX2 was no longer detected as modules, and was also not detected in the registry, which is a relief! :lol:
Thank you for your continued help.
Just an orphaned entry now

We'll need to disable AdAware's AdWatch, since it might interfere with other program(s) we might be using to 'clean' off your system; you can re-enable it after we're done. To disable this feature, run Run AdAware SE, then:
1. Click "AdWatch".
2. Click "Tools and Preferences".
(Look at the bottom of the window you will see two options...)
3. Uncheck these options:
Active: This will turn Ad-Watch On\Off without closing it
Automatic: Suspicious activity will be blocked automatically
Remember to re-enable this feature once your system is clean.
===============
Run HiJackThis, click "Scan", then check(tick) the following, if present:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KavSvc] C:\WINDOWS\system32\vimizv.exe
Now, with all windows closed except HiJackThis, click "Fix checked".
===============
After rebooting your PC, rescan with hijackthis and post a new log.
Let me know how things are now.

Done. Ad-Watch did interfere on the reboot still. Seems its set to active again at startup. All it did was prompt the deletion of the file. I clicked yes and went ahead and rebooted again to make sure the log shows all the necessary info:

I really need to learn about using HijackThis and Pocket Killbox!
Congratulations! Your log looks clean - good work!

Now that your PC is clean you need to follow these easy steps to keeping it this way:
Secure your Internet Explorer by going here and following the instructions there.
Use a firewall to help prevent your PC's control being usurped by undesireables. There is a link to a good, free firewall in my signature.
[color=blue]Install and keep updated, Ad-Aware SE, and Spybot S&D.
Run them both on a regular basis, following the manufacturer's recommendations.
Install an anti-virus. There are some good, free AV's available today. Make sure that it is updated regularly and have it scan your system often.
Check for Windows Updates. Microsoft regularly post updates for your systems safe running. Make sure to take advantage of this. Reboot when installed and return to make sure there are no others.
Clear your Temp folders.
Clear out your Temporary internet files and other temp files.
Go to Start > Settings > Control Panel >Internet Options.
Under the General tab click the Delete temporary internet files,
delete all Offline content as well. Clear out Cookies.
Also, go to Start > Find/search > Files or folders > in the named box, type: *.tmp and choose Edit > select all -> File > delete.
Empty/delete the entire contents of the C:\Windows\temp folder and C:\temp folder, if you have one. (Contents but not the folder itself.)
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Temp\
In order to view these files you may have to select 'show hidden files/folders.' Instructions on how to here.
Empty the Recycle Bin.

If you have any more problems, post back.

Happy surfing,
crunchie.
