1. HiajckThis alone isn't going to be able to clean all of this up, so let's run a few other tools first. Please download and install:

ewido Security Suite (free trial version)
Microsoft AntiSpyware beta
Ad Aware SE Personal
SpyBot Search & Destroy

Run each utility consecutively, and reboot after each program has finished its scan/fixes (just for good measure). Before actually scanning/fixing with each, make sure to use the programs' online update features to make sure you have all of the most current updates installed.

2. Once you've cleaned up as much as possible with the above utilities, run HijackThis again and post a fresh log.

Please do not contact me by email or PM for help. We're all volunteers here, and only have so much free time to dedicate to our efforts.

However, if I've been working on a thread with you already, and seem to have "forgotten" your thread, please do send me a message. I try not to let things slip through the cracks, but it does happen sometimes.

Hi Postie,

I just noticed nobody has responded to you yet, so thought I would - I'm still pretty new here, but saw a similar post to yours and this was the first step the pro listed in the thread:

Go to www.trendmicro.com, and then:

1. Click "Free Online Scan".
2. Click "Scan now, it's free".

It'll take a few minutes to download (especially with a dialup connection), so be patient. When it's down:

1. Select all available drives.
2. Check(tick) "Auto Clean".
3. Click "Scan".

When it completes, post back the full filename of any files that cannot be cleaned or deleted.

Also, I'm pretty new at reading HijackThis logs, but will give it a shot since I'm wanting to learn and be helpful - mostly I'm just seeing some adware/spyware type stuff, possibly a virus, so scanning with the free online scan is first step, then some anti-spyware. You aslo seem to have a lot of toolbars - I know there are "bad" ones out there - not sure how to tell which are which, but Spybot will remove the bad search bars.

Take care - hopefully someone else more knowledgeable will reply.

Hi Postie, welcome to DaniWeb

In addition to what kAtHicKa has suggested, go to Windows Update and get the Critical Updates for your system as soon as possible.

Also, for every User listed under C:\Documents and Settings, delete the entire contents of these folders (not the folders themselves):

Local Settings\Temp
Cookies
History
Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5

Delete the entire contents of your C:\Windows\Temp folder.

Delete the entire contents of your C:\Temp folder (if you have one).

Do a search for *.tmp and delete all entries found.

(Note: if any of these temporary files cannot be deleted while in ‘normal mode,’ try Safe Mode.

Empty the Recycle Bin.

Reboot, close any open browser windows, scan with HijackThis, and post a new log please.

Postie,

We're never going to be able to keep track of you if keep starting new threads for your responses instead of posting them here.

I've tracked down your other responses to this troubleshoot and merged them into this thread, but from now on, please use the "Post Reply" button in this thread instead of clicking "New Thread".

Thanks.

Absolutely. You should never do a major upgrade to a computer that's infected or otherwise problematic. You run the risk of having Very Bad Things happen if you do.

1. Open your Add/Remove Programs control panel and uninstall any programs related to My Way, My Search, My Bar, My Search Bar, etc.

2. C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTERNET EXPLORER\IEXPLORE.EXE
C:\PROGRAM FILES\INTERNET EXPLORER\IEXPLORE.EXE

The log entries above indicates that you had at least 2 instances of Internet Explorer running when you ran HijackThis. Before fixing problems with HijackThis, you must make sure to close/quit ALL instances of your web browsers.
HijackThis cannot fully perform its fixes while browsers are running.

3. After taking care of the above, run HJT again and have it fix:

4. Open an MS-DOS window, type the following command, and then hit Enter. Close the DOS window when the command completes:

regsvr32 /u C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\WLDR.DLL

5. Reboot into safe mode (you get to the safe mode boot option by hitting the F8 key as your computer is starting up)

- Open Windows Explorer and:
Select the View menu and then click Folder Options.
After the new window appears select the View tab.
Scroll down until you see the Show all files radio button and select it.
Press the Apply button and then the OK button.

- Locate and delete the following files:
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\wlxlcpeq.exe
C:\GSIVO.EXE
C:\WINDOWS\System\srvc32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\System\spoolsrv32.exe
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\WLDR.DLL

-
Locate and delete the following folders entirely:
C:\PROGRAM FILES\2SEARCH
C:\PROGRAM FILES\MYWAY\MYBAR
C:\PROGRAM FILES\ISTSVC

- Empty your Recycle Bin and reboot normally.

6. Run HJT again and post a fresh log.
