no sound from speakers

my son has a new dell computer and no sound comes from the speakers. he lives with his mom so i do not have the specs of the system other than it is win xp(big help right)
wondering where to start with it?
thanks for any help

Check to see if the mute button is checked in the MAIN volume control. Make sure he/she has their speakers all plugged in to the right audio output jack on the back of the soundcard. SOUNDBLASTER(tipically come with dell's) So the soundcard audio output should be the green hole.
