XP Sticking

Hello all
This is not much of a problem but a little annoying - all of a sudden my PC has started to slow down - examples of this are when hjovering the mouse over start button it takes a few seconds to recognise it before it highlights the start button. Also, moving from one application to another is slow - it used to be instantanious. Does anyone know of any tools that i can use to test the performance and maybe remody this problem?
I use XP with an AMD XP 2000+ GeForce 3 Graphics etc
