Hi, I am totally new at configuring my own desktop. I live in Vietnam and cannot ask advice in the shops because people don’t speak english (and I don’t speak vietnamese). I will use for developing purposes (Visual Studio.Net). I have set up the following. Is this compatible or I am in for a lot of trouble?
CPU: Intel Pentium 4 3.2E 3,2GHz 800MHz socket 775, 1 MB
Mainboard : Asus P5GD1-VM OR Asus P5GDC-V Deluxe OR Gigabyte 8I915G- Duo OR
Intel D915GAV
HDD: Maxtor 80 GB Diamondplus 9 (7200 rpm) Serial ATA, 8Mb cache
RAM: DDRam 512 Mb bus 400 (PC3200)

Thanks!

What will you be developing, specificly if you can tell us

Do you really want to stick with Pentinums or are you open to other suggestions?

Will this workstation be used for anything else besides programming?
Firefox: no, its not the end all solution, it has its own issues and in time it will be just as insecure as IE, when its hit Firefox 6, if it makes it that far. Oh, and AOL pays for it, incase you didn't know.

Microsoft & Windows: If you hate it so much, move to linux, or bsd, or anything else, stop complaning and move on.
Good starting places: Gentoo Novell SUSE Fedora Core Apple

I'll using it mainly to do my MCAD course and then, well depends how I like it. I have tried to find a AMD atlon64, but here (vietnam) it is impossible to get hold of. They really only have Pentium. Not much choice then. I am just not sure about the motherboard.
