I hit Start, shutdown, then shutdown from drop-down list. The computer acts like it is going to shut down. The "safe to turn off computer" never shows up, just a black screen. Computer keeps running and after about a minute just starts up like normal.
The only way to shutdown is to physically hold down the startup/shutdown button on the cpu.
Help.

Hm, sounds to me like an error problem. I'd scandisk, virus scan, and even if you had time , defrag. Tell me this, have you recently installed any programs that you may suspect could have caused this problem?
