PC loading problem - URGENT guys -

hey guys, well recently i have been having problems with my pc. When i turn it on, theres an error msg that appears and says..."BOOT DISK FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM DISK AND PRESS ENTER". I have asked my friends about this and they say its the hard drive that is totally gone. i tryed to unplug it and install it on my other pc but it would do the same thing. Also i have another hard drive that is stuffed. I install XP on it on 1 computer, then i go to the other computer and plug it on there, and the same ERROR MSG appears. My computers have trouble reading hard drives and says theres nothing there...

Any1 have any ideas? would be much appreciated .....

For starters you can't put XP on a drive in one PC, then put the drive in another PC. XP won't boot if you do that.

Before you go jumping to conclusions, check BIOS setup in your PC and ensure that it is set to boot from hard drive.
Need to install Windows again?

alrite well i didnt know about that XP thing so thank you

well now i have other hard drives im trying to format but its not reading any of them... i keep gettin the same error for all hard drives.."BOOT DISK FAILURE, INSERT SYSTEM BOOT DISK N PRESS ENTER". why doesnt it ready any of my hard drives...i have set the jumpers to masters on all of them and i went into the bios and set all the primary's and secondary's to AUTO, and it still doesnt read any hard drives... does this mean i might have to flash the bios ?



how do i get the mother board to read my hard drives ? just to format and partition them. ?

Hi, I've merged your two topics as they relate to the identical problem.

You'll need to provide us with some details in order that we can work out what is going on. Please let us know the make and model of your motherboard and of the hard drives you are using. Are they IDE drives or SATA drives?

I suspect the problem lies in your system's BIOS setup configuration, but we need to know just what hardware you have there.
Need to install Windows again?

OK WELL...thats the motherboard of 1 computer (ASUS ASM58 Mozart-2)
and im trying install this harddrive...(Seagate Barracuda ATA V 60gigs, Model 8TT360015A)

what to do ? i keep getting the msg , "BOOT DISK FAILURE.. INSERT SYSTEM DISK N PRESS ENTER" and my bios dosnt detect it as i said in my other msg...

Have you tried resetting CMOS (either by hardware jumper method or by removing the CMOS battery for several minutes) and then rebooting to see if the drive is detected?

Is BIOS setup configured to autodetect drives?

Are the drives appropriately jumpered as Master and Slave accordingly, with Master drives attached to the end cable connector and Slave drives attached to the middle cable connector?
Need to install Windows again?

ok well i have just tryed to reset CMOS by taking the BATTERY out n putting it back in but it still does not read the hard drive... once i turned it back on, it asked me to put the cpu speed on then i saved bios n tryed it again and no hard drive detection was found. that same message comes up..

this is the setting i have inside the computer.

PRIMARY IDE SLOT ON MOTHERBOARD :

HAS THE HARD DRIVE ON THE LAST SLOT OF THE IDE CABLE AND THE HARD DRIVE IS SET TO MASTER WITH THE JUMPER.

SECONDARY IDE SLOT ON MOTHERBOARD:

HAS THE CD ROM ON THE LAST SLOT OF THE IDE CABLE AND THE CD ROM IS SET TO MASTER WITH THE JUMPER...

what else can it be ?

What are the settings for BIOS boot order? 1st device, 2nd device, etc etc?

Is there a floppy disk in the drive? Is the system set to boot from CD-ROM and there is a non-bootable CD in the drive?
Need to install Windows again?

the boot order is CD-rom, A drive, other drive (network) and hard drive (but says "none")

yeah there is a floopy drive too, and the cd there is a bootable cd.. thats the thing.. the cd loads.. and starts doin its xp thing but it reaches this spot where it cant go..

its a blue screen says..

press enter to setup XP..

To repair, press R...

then when u try both of those options.. a blue screen apprears saying.. SETUP DID NOT FIND ANY HARD DRIVE INSTALLED . MAKE SYRE ANY HARD DISK DRIVES ARE POWERED ON AND PROPERLY CONNECTED TO UR PC, AND THAT ANY DISK RELATED HARDWARE CONFIGURATION IS CORRECT. THIS MAY INVOLVE RUNNING A MANUFACTURER SUPPLIED DIAGNOSTIC OR SETUP PROGRAM.

SET UP CANNOT CONTINUE, TO QUIT PRESS F3...

after i do that ... it repeats the steps....
so now what?
