Crunchie......it looks like the pop-ups have stopped....thanks for all the help!....I'll be using your suggestions moving forward on how to prevent it from happening again - first is getting off IE !! One item is still occuring, though, and I wanted to see what you thought.....it's WildTanget.....I'm getting an error again when the PC starts up...here it is:

"Error loading C:\Program Files\WildTangent\Apps\CDA\cdaEngine 0400.dll The specified module could not be loaded"

This error was not occuring after the final clean-up for a few reboots......but now it's back. I did a search for Wild Tanget on the drives and nothing shows up. I removed the program via Add/Remove several posts ago. The only other thing that just popped in my head was that I didn't flush the restore points at first and I'm not sure whether or not this error start again after I did that or not??

How can I stop this from happening? I've included a HJT.

Log looks clean again . See how it goes for a couple of days and let me know what happens.

Crunchie....I was doing some "snooping" around on my own and I think I found something........when I load Lavasoft's Ad-Watch module (are you familiar?), I get see changes to the registry taking place.....I looked into the logs and saw the changes being made for WildTangent, qbet, kdsp.exe etc - all of the stuff you had me "fix" in HJT and the same ones I do a search for to delete on the hard drive but cannot ever find....I tested it by loading Ad Watch after the good HJT scan, saw the registry changes taking place, rebooted and got that WildTangent error I was complaining about....I did another HJT scan and saw the same ones you had me "fix" before.. ....so I unload Ad Watch, did the fix on the registry with HJT and rebooted - no WildTangent error and a clean HJT .....is it possible that the LavaSoft programs are corrupt? :eek: Are there any of those log files that you'd like to see? thanks

If I had seen Adwatch running in the hijackthis log I would have recommended you disable it before fixing anything. Adwatch cannot discriminate between malware attempting to make changes, or you the owner making legitimate changes.
It is not corrupt, just doing it's job .
Your best bet may be to uninstall it, make the changes with hijackthis, then reinstall Adwatch.

So is AdWatch seeing that a change was made and then changing it back ? .....your suggesting to unistall (not disable) Ad Watch and then reinstall it .....any time I'd need to change the registry I'd have to do a new install of Ad Watch basically ?? ...seems like I was causing my own problems for 2 months ! :o

I only suggest uninstalling it if disabling it does not work. When a registry change is attempted (I do not have Adwatch, so correct me if I am wrong), Adwatch should pop up and ask if you want the change to go ahead, yes? There may also be an option to "remember my answer," yes? So, if you tick 'NO' and have it remember the answer, it is possible I think, that Adwatch will apply it across the board. Once the remember my answer is ticked, I don't know if it can be reversed.

Hi Crunchie.....did some inestigating.....it's weird, but here's what I am seeing.....I disable Ad-Watch and then run the fix using HJT to get rid of the registry entries for Wildtangent, etc and then reboot (with Ad Watch still disabled) and things look fine....however, as soon as I enable Ad-Watch, those changes that I made seem to come back - the event log screen for Ad-Watch shows various changes to the registry - it does not ask me if they are "ok" it just reports that they are made.....I've copied the log file below for you to see as well as the HJT scan that I ran right afterwards.....is my cope of Ad-Watch somehow corrupt or am I not using the app correctly?.....I did not try to unistall the software and re-install - should I ? thanks for the help

Hi again. Yes, uninstall Adwatch, then make the necessary changes. Before reinstalling it, reboot and post another log.
