Hello everyone,
I hope i've come to the right place to make a request of some talented individual(s). To be honest its a plea from the heart.
Synopsis:
To create a GUI based program to modify 1,2 or maybe 3 driver files to temporarily disable 'Macrovision Detection' in ATI WDM drivers.
------------------------------------------------------------------
Thousands of happy ATI VIVO/AIW card owners on many digital video forums have bemoaned the inability to 'backup' their legally owned video cassettes. The principle of a suggested modification program isnt a new one, but it would be readily welcomed.
Legal Issues:
The ATI driver team have had to comply with current copyright laws, no one is disputing that fact nor wishing to ask anyone to break the law, hence the term - temporarily disable.
-----------------------------------------------------------------
To sum up, I dont represent any forum, persons or bodies. But I do own an ATI VIVO card and the inability to record some of my favourite old films is irritating.
If someone were to create a program to help the ATI 'community' the program wouldnt need to be affiliated with any site nor person(s). Hopefully, it would just be available as a freeware tool.
There are some programs available which perform the requested function, but have sadly lapsed and no longer work, the authors seem to be unreachable.
--------------------------------------------------------------
If i've made an unacceptable request or am in the wrong place, then I apologise. Otherwise, if someone wishes to take on the project and needs some background information then i'd be happy to provide what little I know about the drivers although i'm not a programmer.
Thanks for reading and I hope someone can help,
Ali. UK.
