You can "obtain" Novell, but using that server/client software is effectively like shooting yourself in the foot. It's a not an intelligent idea, and will cause you nothing but pain.
The clients are free...the services those clients connect to on a server are not free.
edit: I'm only editing this because while I'm sure Netware is just fine and dandy, but having it as your first real server would be nothing but trouble. That, and it's uber-expensive.
