I too am having the Generic Host-problem.
I have been reading alot about this problem, but have never come to a solution. Could the experts here help me out?
I checked my computer with Norman Virus Control, and here are the results:
C:\System Volume Information\_restore{BCE84D8D-E2BA-4872-B7AA-EEE8594D84E9}\RP80\A0018206.exe
C:\System Volume Information\_restore{BCE84D8D-E2BA-4872-B7AA-EEE8594D84E9}\RP80\A0018207.exe
Diagnose was: Cannot parse or unpack this object
A picture:

What does the diagnose mean?
A few pictures of the error reports. Some of the text is in finnish, sorry. :surprised
The error-reports signature: sz:AppName: szAppVer:0.0.0.0 szModName: unknown szModVer:0.0.0.0 offset:00000000
And a picture:

The programs that have crashed seem to be svchost.exe.mdmp (memory dump?) and appcompat.txt

I would really appreciate if someone could help me out.

1. For the " C:\System Volume Information\_restore..." problems that Norman reports, please see the following post for more information:
http://www.daniweb.com/techtalkforum...59&postcount=2
2. As for the svchost error reports:
svchost.exe is a Windows component which manages many other Windows programs. Given that, and the fact that the specific error messages give only "sz:AppName: szAppVer:0.0.0.0 szModName: unknown szModVer:0.0.0.0 offset:00000000", there's no helpful inforamtion there to help us determine the exact program or module which is causing the error.
Can you tell us which programs are running when you get these errors? That info might help us narrow things down.
Also-open the Event Viewer utility in your Administrative Tools control panel and have a look through the System and Application logs for entries flagged as "Warning" or "Error".
Double-clicking on any of those entries will open a "details" window with more information about the error/warning. If you find any entries that seem to relate to the problem(s) that you're having, post the full and exact contents given in the detail windows.

Please do not contact me by email or PM for help. We're all volunteers here, and only have so much free time to dedicate to our efforts.
However, if I've been working on a thread with you already, and seem to have "forgotten" your thread, please do send me a message. I try not to let things slip through the cracks, but it does happen sometimes.

The Generic Host-crash appears to be random. Once I got a few seconds after startup, sometimes it takes hours before it crashes. A few times it has crashed without any programs running. I don't have any applications running, it just crashes without warning. I have tried to be on the lookout, to see if the crash is related to any one application, but so far it seems to be random.
The symptoms are: after Generic Host Process crashes, my sound doesn't work anymore and the buttons above my keyboard don't work either. Could the problem be in any way linked to system restore-thing?
Went to the event viewer and found this:
Application:
Error application: version: 0.0.0.0, module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, address 0x00000000
And below is this:
0000: 41 70 70 6c 69 63 61 74 Applicat
0008: 69 6f 6e 20 46 61 69 6c ion Fail

0020: 20 75 6e 6b 6e 6f 77 6e unknown
0028: 20 30 2e 30 2e 30 2e 30 0.0.0.0

0038: 65 74 20 30 30 30 30 30 et 00000
0040: 30 30 30 000
The event number was 1000
What had crashed in the system apparently was Service Control manager, event number 7032.
Hope this helps.
