W32/Generic.worm!p2p

When I try and download hijackthis, I get a message from the antivirus program this computer came with, (macfee?). The message says: "the file hijackthis was infected by the W32/Generic.worm!p2p virus and has been deleted to complete the clean process"

I'm guessing the person who programmed this virus new what he was doing, and disabled the hijackthis file so It cant be executed.


Also, to top things off, my computer's been slow lately, and I get the 'Windows is increasing your virtual memory...' deal a lot, but I just got a message that said 'out of memory' and the title of the window is 'blazing tools perfect keylogger.' Chances are that's not good right?

I've searched far and wide for a cure for this virus, so please dont get pissed If i've missed a page, i'm very much against ignorance myself.

Or you can temporarily disable McAfee .

This appears to be a worm spread via file-sharing (P2P). Follow the instructions here to remove it:

Then try downloading HijackThis again:

LimeWire was probably the cause of your problem; I suggest you remove it.

I don't have time to analyze your log right now, but if you follow the suggestions and instructions in the links below, you can get your log cleaned up a bit yourself.

Post a new log when you're done and someone will be along to assist you ASAP.

Please download the trial version of Ewido Security Suite here:
http://www.ewido.net/en/download/
Install it, and update the definitions to the newest files. Do NOT run a scan yet.
Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following:
1) Restart your computer
2) After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, press F8.
3) Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu should appear
4) Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode.

For additional help in booting into Safe Mode, see the following site:
http://www.pchell.com/support/safemode.shtml

Once in Safe Mode, please run Ewido, and do a full scan. During the scan it will prompt you to clean files, click OK.

Save the logfile from the scan. Restart your computer in normal mode and please post a new HijackThis log, as well as the log from the Ewido scan.
