Datagrid is not working that well in edit mode

I am having a problem with my datagrid. When ever I click the edit hyperlink, datagrid only shows the header-nothing else. It is not until I do a postback for the second time that the datagrid will show values with the edit column swithched over to "update,cancel" column.
Can anyone tell me why this is happening?
