Hi!
New to forums so please bear with me! I am helping my friend de-virus and de-junk a computer that was given to her, I have managed to clean it up and finally get an internet connection, however, although I am getting a connection on a 56k modem, it is very slow and I keep getting the web page up saying
The page cannot be displayed
the page you are looking for is currently unavailable.........................etc etc etc.
please is there anything i can do to get internet up and running normally again?
Is it a tcip type problem if so what do i do?

my modem is a V.92 PCI VOICE FAXMODEM
it is running version 6 internet explorer
and the OS is windows millenium
Thanks in advance for any help

Hello,

I have moved your thread into the proper forum. You may wish to move up one level, and read the various readmes associated with viruses and spyware.

I like using adaware from Lavasoft when dealing with these problems, but there are other solutions.

Yup- the following links have more on that; please give them a read and try the suggestions given there, as you may still have malicious components messing with your Net connection.

If the problems persist after trying the above suggestions:

Download the (free) HijackThis utility:

http://www.stevewolfonline.com/Downl...HijackThis.exe

Once downloaded, follow these instructions to install and run the program:

Create a folder outside of any Temp/Temporary folders for HJT and move it there now. A folder such such as C:\HijackThis or C:\Spyware Tools\HijackThis will do.

Run HijackThis, but do not have HJT fix anything yet; only have it scan your system! Once the scan is complete, the "Scan" button will turn into an option to "Save log...". Save the log in the folder you created for HiajckThis, open the log in Windows Notepad, and cut-n-paste the entire contents of the log here.

The log contents will tell us a lot about what "nasties" have crept into your system, and once we analyse the log we can tell you what to do from there.

Please do not contact me by email or PM for help. We're all volunteers here, and only have so much free time to dedicate to our efforts.

However, if I've been working on a thread with you already, and seem to have "forgotten" your thread, please do send me a message. I try not to let things slip through the cracks, but it does happen sometimes.
