Probably because they already had it, and they don't have enough in the budget to buy new software. The students get the shaft once again...
So I guess you want to get it so that you can work on your projects outside of the lab. I couldn't find anywhere that sells the program, so your best bet would be to ask your instructors if they knew how to get ahold of the program (maybe they have additional copies they could loan you). Also, they may have information about how you can use more up-to-date versions and save in a backwards compatible format.

Maybe you could suggest to your Teachers, that they could use a freeware alternative. I don't know what is best to suggest out of the bunch so maybe someone with experience could advise.

Alternatively, If your teachers don't have a spare license, send a email to autocad, and I'm sure they could work something out with you.

Oh no!!!
Budget is not the issue. The thing is , they work on AutoCad 2005 and when i asked them, they told us that 2005 will make our (student's) job almost effortless and we wont gain much from it . Thats the whole story. Well , i will ask them for a copy and i will get it. i only wanted to know whether such old programs do exsist on net or not. Maybe they dont...

You can find almost any program (old or not) available on the net. These sources are usually less than legal however. Vendors don't like selling old software since they don't want to offer any support for it. This is why you don't see old software available legitamately years after its end of life.
