Million dollar homepages

There is a market for this. I have a site such as this. The original idea by Alex was a good one and for him to make money - it wasnt meant for advertising by other companies as such. The traffic increase was from the news stories about the idea more than the site. Other sites have sprung up also which are trying to copy his (nothing wrong with that, our site is using his idea too). But again they are interested in making money only and not about the customer.

We have taken his concept of selling pixel space (again no different from seller banner or ad space) but have taken it further. We are actively driving customers to the site. It is easier for us to market one site which will then drive visitors to the site so it is a sort of portal. We have also added some uniqueness to drive traffic (viewers and customers) by adding incentives. We also recognized that the ads would be small and larger ads would be cost prohibitive. So we came up with the floating banner concept which gives you a larger ad for approx 5% of the cost of a fixed placement ad on the site of the same size , whilst still maintaining the link.

This should only be taken as another string in your marketing bow. We have also the ability to allow the customers to change their image, message, banner etc for a small fee (which covers the cost of approving images, links and text which have to be manually checked to protect the end users). So for a one off placement companies or individuals can have a lifetime ad campaign that can be changed.

As i said, just one extra in your tools for marketing. Cheaper than cpc or paid placement over a long period. Its not to everyones liking, but it is to a lot of people. The onus is on sites like ours to drive traffic to them so that the traffic is then forwarded. The MDH was never and will never market itself any further as Alex has all but done with it (especially as it has been under DoS attack for a week solid) but we strive to drive traffic to our site and will actively market it as best as we can

What about a new interesting website called shoot4firstplace?

This site gives advertisers the chance to own a piece of internet realestate for only $1.05 with the ability to change their ads at any time, including a 468x60 banner or a text link.

The idea is they have a list of advertisements. The list change over time altough all ads are presents all the time, the list changes because it is ordered by price, so the advertisers that paid the most are at the top.

Also, they have directory where the ads are organized by topic, visitors browse the directory and find the information they want quickly.

Mareq, most of the banners are clicked randomly, as it's quite hard to recognize what 10x10px is presenting. It's even hard to recognize the message of 20x20px, but easier... That's why many advertisers purchased bigger area.
The challenge is to find a good reason for a banner to be clicked keeping is small. What about offering the banners some competition?
If you like one more than other, just click it to promote it, regardless you gonna utilize your visit to target page. Or, again, hang on and see why they are so popular...
The motivations are as many as Internauts, believe or not.

Kind regards to everyone, especially Alex Tew!

Here's another one I wish I'd thought of first:

http://www.musicofamillion.com

This guy's a musician with the goal of raising $1,000,000 to build a home music studio...people pay $1 to download his music and post an ad on his site. I've already bought a posting...I think it will turn out to be a really good $1 investment!

These ideas do work, that's why people invest in them. Most visitors spend more than a few seconds on the site because not only do they want to see the idea but who has invested in it - that's where the clicks come from.

I've made my own 'evolution' of the idea at www.ownthemap.com which again seems to work. I'm selling countries instead of pixels giving it that something extra special.

I don't think anyone expects to receive the same success as Tew. We do, however, realise that this idea does work and there is very much a market for it.
