No guarentees, as it could be a couple things, but please do these:
Download the latest version of Ad-Aware at http://www.lavasoftusa.com/support/download/
After installing AAW, and before running the program, FIRST update the reference file following these instructions.
http://www.lavahelp.com/howto/updref/index.html
Now do the following:
- Under Ad-aware 6 > Settings (Gear at the top) > Tweaks > Scanning Engine:
check: "Unload recognized processes during scanning."
- Under Ad-aware 6 > Settings (Gear at the top) > Tweaks > Cleaning Engine:
Check: "Let Windows remove files in use after reboot."
Press "Scan Now"
- Check option "Use Custom scanning options"
- Check option "Activate In-Depth Scan"
- Press "Select drives\folders to scan"
- Select the active partition which is usually C:
Now press "Next" to let Ad-aware scan your drives...
It will find a number of "bad" files and registry keys.
Right-click in that pane and choose "select all"
Now press "Next" again.
It will ask you whether you'd like to remove all checked items. Click OK.
Finally, close Ad-Aware, and reboot.
then post a new hijack this log here .

Thanks Caperjack, sorry for the delay but I am manually working between two drives.
I certainly hope I am wrong but I really don't think that Adware has the grunt to deal with these grubs.
I have done a couple of online scans which revealed these rotten worms but they weren't able to deal with them.
Seems the only reference to be found on these grubs is here http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_haldll_missing.htm
which appears to me to relate to a partitioned drive.
When I get a Hijackthis readout I will post it again...in the meantime...thanks.

Looks to me like you've been hijacked by coolwebsearch. Download CWShredder from http://209.133.47.200/~merijn/files/CWShredder.exe unzip & run it getting it to fix all it finds.
Make sure that all your microsoft updates are current & then post another log plz.
What do you think caperjack?

HEY CAPERJACK...WHERE ARE U......yeh I'm yelling.
Anyway thanks guys.....with the assortment of arsenal you've made available along with AVG it seems we have finally put these guys into the virus vault.....though I would rather them be snuffed out.
It has been a long and tedious task as initially they ran rings around AVG but with the thrashing they received from the additional tools youv'e provided seems they eventually gave up the fight.
Hurrahs all round.
What a team effort.
