I have used DirectSound for years but I have started a new Direct3D 10 game and wanted to use something more supported and newer. Target VC++ 2010 build for Win7 platform, prefer an OOP model if one exists. Suggestions?

OpenAL is to audio, what OpenGL is to graphics.

Doesn't DX handle audio as well?

FMOD perhaps?

Direct Sound has not change much since 2004, with a minor update for Vista.

WASAPI is the new windows sound API built on top of Direct Audio like Direct Sound was. I want to explore the pros and cons of other newer Audio APIs before I start writing code again. Thank you, I will take a look at both of these.
