Hi!!!

I am on Win 2000 pro. Recently, my programms hangs up quite unexpectedly, for example, when i play my music files , and after sometime it recovers. Similarly, Zone Alarm hangs up only when I try to access product info . panel . Non-microsoft programs don't recover whereas programs like Windows media player do so. Also, only specific programs hang up and not the whole machine . Whats wrong??

This info is not sufficient to solve the problem, give us some more info, like the system configuration, also post the http://www.majorgeeks.com/download3155.html Log

As the Announcement posted at the top of this forum indicates, HijackThis logs should only be posted in our Viruses, Spyware, and other Nasties forum.

Neither do I, actually.
I would start by having a look through your System and Application logs for any entries flagged as "Warning" or "Error". Such entries might help you narrow down the offending component(s). You can view the logs through the Event Viewer utility in your Administrative Tools control panel.

That's definitely possible; why do you ask? If you made adds/removes/changes to your services or any other software components just prior to the problems occuring, please give us the details.

2. Without the logs, finding clues will be difficult. I'd suggest you start by running the System File Checker (SFC) utility and see if it finds any missing/corrupt system files or other inconsistencies. More info from Microsoft on the SFC is here.
