I have a wirelessnetwork in my home. My daughter visited at Christmas and her laptop worked fine. Now she is here and can't get a signal from my router, although my laptop can. The network doesn't show up as available on her machine.
Any ideas why? She still has my network setup on her box and it looks just like mine except it shows manual rather than automatic and won't change.
Her ex was doing something with MAC which I didn't understand, but could that be blocking her from my network. Hers works fine at her home. And I can see spurious connects to unknown netwworks that don't really connect when I try.
We both use XP. firewall is off.

Mac address filtering can cause exactly wot your describing. you need to go into the router's config utility and turn mac filtering off or add your daughters card to the allow list.
