Hi
I have just recently joined here and I have been reading the other posts from people to problems similar to mine but I thought that I would go ahead and post my situation and see what everyone thinks that i might be able to do to resolve these issues that I am having
Thanks for your patience- I have a little self taught computer knowledge but i will most likely need alot of things explained in detail
I recently installed a Linksys wireless system on my Compaq Armada 700 series laptop
The first night that it was installed with my DSL service-it ran like a dream
i did not set any encryption settings- i guess that i figured that i could go back and do that later
The next day i could not connect to the internet using my router connected to the dsl modem the same way that it was connected the previous night
All i did was shut down the computer for the night and since then
I have had problems configuring it to work and disconnected the router and pulled the wireless card
At this point in time I can connect to the web using my dsl modem using AOL but I cannot get anything without having AOL open on IE or Enigma
OS is Win XP Pro with a 746 mhz PIII processor and 256 ram
When I try and connect to a web page with IE I get the "server not found" message
However-when i am connected to AOL-I can open IE or Enigma and connect to any web page with np
Someone locally suggested that i look for a program called Winsok Repair online and I did a search for this but so far I am unable to find a free program to download and run
Is the spelling on this correct?
I would appreciate any ideas and thoughts on fixing this problem as i do not want to do a complete system restore on this HD
I had SBC/AT&T out here and they checked my connections-I was having issues ever since I switched from cable to dsl about 3 months ago and they said that I have a very good connection and everything checked out on the techs laptop when he connected.
I have also done a complete virus scan in safe mode-no virus and i did a "HiJackThis" and had it analyzed on another forum and there were no issues present there
Any thoughts/ideas are very much appreciated
I am really stumped on this one and after i get IE to work again I will be asking for help with going back and setting up the encryption on the Linksys system-if it is recommended
Also-when i opened the CD's for the router and the wireless card and put them back in the envelopes-I noticed when i took then back out that the adhesive from the envelope had gotten all over the CD's leaving them quite useless-I guess that i can download anything that i would need from linksys site but this was a real pain as both CD's can't be read anymore
I have a disk cleaning kit and that did not even remove the adhesive
Thanks for your time and any replies
Sandy
