My question is not on how to configure a network myself, but on how a clients network might be configured.

I have built a software application that connects to a web server running on port 5875. I have done this to try and avoid web proxy issues when deployed behind a client's network.

My question concerns how network administrators might set up a network to direct / or force web traffic to go through a web proxy. It is my understanding that if the client is using a non-transparent web proxy, then traffic that tries to connect on port 80 is blocked and the user has to enter the proxy settings into their browser. But I am wondering if any network administrator (or any router) would monitor the packet headers and not only block traffic connecting on port 80, but all http traffic. Would this be possbile and / or would anyone do this?

Basically, what my question boils down to is if I get the network administrator to open port 5875, then will my traffic get through safely all of the time?
