Hi,
I have a Linux box running Apache 2.0.52.

I can go to http://192.168.0.70 (the IP address of the linux box), and display the Red Hat Enterprise Linux Test Page. However, when I try to go to http://192.168.0.70/~starfish/index.html, it returns a 403 Forbidden error.

The index.html file currently resides within /home/starfish/public_html/, and I have given +x access to /home, 777 access to /home/starfish and it's subdirectories and files. It still doesn't work.

Below are the settings I have on my httpd.conf file. What am I missing?? Please help.

Your server is setup to read documents in /var/www/html with the following directions:

<Directory "/var/www/html">
   Options Indexes FollowSymLinks
   AllowOverride None
   Order allow,deny
   Allow from All
</Directory>

If you want a different document root, you have to specify it. So switch that option up to /home/directoryname/whatever

Then get rid of the /home directory you have later in that file. Restart apache and see what happens.

Alternatively, you can place the following after all the <Directory> declarations:
