Hi,

I have a problem with my computer. Every time I right-click on a file, my external HD starts clicking very slowly (the same "clicking" it normally does at high speed when in use pulling a file).

I tried a refrag of the HD and it said it couldn't because of a corrupt file in a WinZip folder. I opened up the drive to see all the files. There's a WinZip folder in there that is empty. So I simply tried to delete it (or drag it to the Recycle Bin). Either way, I get the same error popup on my screen:

Cannot delete WinZip: Data error (cyclic redundancy check)

I'm running XP Home Edition on a P4. The HD is a FantomDrive connected by USB.

Basically, since the file is empty and was originally probably moved there along with other files I was just trying to keep backup copies of (before reformatting my main HD), I clearly don't need it or anything in it.

I just want to delete the file which will presumably get everything working again.

Open a command prompt: click Start, choose Run, execute cmd .

Type: chkdsk <drive_letter>: /f

Where <drive_letter> is the drive letter assigned to your external HDD.
