A quick question on Networking PCI cards

I am upgrading to a 1 megabyte cable connection in about a week, and i need to purchase a wireless router and a wireless pci card for my pc. If i were to buy a Linksys or something and its speed is 54Mbps, I'm assuming that that is 54 Megabytes per second, not kilobytes, right? Also, I dont know exactly which one to buy but i would prefer a slightly cheaper Linksys if I could find one, and suggestions are welcome.

Well first which is always a wide misconception is that Mbps is not MegaBytes but MegaBits. Also, in general Linksys is a good router but There are others out there if you want to shop around IE. Newegg, etc.
