USB Disaster - power suge messages and USB malfunction

Help please?!!?!!?!?? I think my wife opened a contamintated email and since I have had rapid onset usb failure. Apart from banning my wife or at least training her not too open contaminated emails can anyone help?

It all began with pop task bar messages that there was a power surge USB hub and an unknown device had exceeded its alloted power limits. Unfortunately, this message still occurred even though all USB devices were unplugged. I am discovering the great limits to my techno knowledge in this area. Please enlighten me with great help advice.:-|

Currently the popup messges have subsided, but the USB printer won't work and instead of recognising USB memory stick or MP3 players it simply turn them on rather tan seeing them as a storage device. IS this a registry problem?

I have scanned the thing many times now with Spy bot, adaware, AVG and NOrton. I think I have rid my machine of as much infection as I can discover.
