Lost Sound

I have Avance AC97 Audio on my Xp system.
Lost sound so I went into Device Manager and there is this message:

Device Status: Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (code 39)

I clicked on troubleshoot and got this error:
Windows cannot open Help and Support because system service is not running. To fix problem, start the service named "Help and Support".

I have been searching my system trying to find where to start this service - anyone have an idea how?

Kathy

Thanks for answering.
The computer was given to me without any disks, so I have nothing to reinstall into the computer.
I found a website that has driver downloads and I tried that yesterday. All I have now is more "crap"on my system.
