I designed a couple of websites, but I can not find them if I search yahoo or google. How do I get my website to be seen when someone puts it in a search engine? Any help would be appreciated

You need a host. Normally, you can get in contact with your current internet service provider for more info.

Well you will need to gain lins pointing to your site so search engine spiders or bots will index your site and more frequent. You can submit your website url to the search engines links bellow:

http://search.yahoo.com/info/submit.html

Another thing is that you will need to so some search engine optimization for your site to be ranked highly in search engines for your key terms. SEO can be very costly or time consuming and it takes time to see results but it is worth while since it is quality traffic.
