hibernate

in my desktop i use the normal login screen (welcome) .when i click turn off the hibernate option is not been displayed. but when i use the other method to login i get the hibernate option at the same time in my laptop when i use normal login (welcome screen) i get the hibernate option when shutting down

what is the reason for this

You will notice that the shut down dislog (when using the welcome screen) has 3 options -- Stand By, Turn Off and Restart. When this box is displayed, press the <shift> key. The Stand By option will turn to Hibernate. This is not an abnormality..it's just how Windows XP is. About your laptop, you see the hibernate option, but not the Stand By option. In such a case, you wont be able to put the system on standby.
