Unique Identifier in Access

In my program I want to add records to the database and then reference them by a unique identifier such as a user id. Even if the user name is the same as another, The would be different IDs so I could pull data on the correct one. So my question is can I set up a field in access that will autoincrement each time a record is added without the need for the program to know it until it needs to access the record?
