Internet connection crashes randomly, reboot required

I will be working on my PC, XP Home Edition, and will randomly lose connection to the Internet. I can still work offline. In order to re-establish connection to the Internet I must turn the computer off and restart it. This disconnect happens whether I use a Belkin router or a Linksys router, which is needed in order for my wife to use her laptop. The disconnects seem to be at random intervals. The power conservation boxes are not checked, but that would not seem to be an issue here as offline continues to be available and a signal is going to the monitor.

I was not able to find this issue discussed already, which is not to say it has not been. I'm looking for direction as I have reached the limits of my own ideas.

Thanks,

keno55

Have you tried just unplugging the router and plugging it back in?

Works for me every time.
