Is there a way to Auto Power on a PC?

I am running a Windows XP SP2 OS on a Celeron 2.0 GHZ with 1 GB RAM. I want to auto power on and shut down my PC when I am not at the computer. Basically I want to schedule the starting up and shutting down of my computer. I know the shutting down can be scheduled, but is there a way to auto power on a computer? Can this be implemented through the BIOS? Will a new BIOS upgrade solve the problem?

i believe you can, you can wake the machine through the NIC card (wake on lan)
