On my taskbar i have an icon that oscilates between a red no entry sign and a blue question mark sign.
Every few minites or so a red dialogue box pops up in the lower right hand corner and tells me my computer is infected and there is virus activity present.It prompts me to log on to the net to various antimal software websites which i am reluctant to follow in case of a scam.

I have the very same problem! It is driving me crazy. I believe that it is some kind of way to get you to purchase the antimalware software. Any help getting rid of this ? Thanks upst8co

I had this same problem. I ran a System Restore (Accessories -> System Tools -> System Restore) to a date prior to when this annoying problem started happening. The restore knocked it out. I've seen some other, much more complex solutions, but this one worked for me.
