Well CSS is a little wacky thing. If it worked sometimes earlier with your IE6 then i think there's some prob with IE, but if had developed that page under other browser such as firefox, opera, netscape etc.. then there is prob. with your page. Since all css properties behave differently in different browsers you have to wisely create a page that would work on every browser. You can use editors like WeBuilder or TopStyle Pro for that.

Explorer will not honer the CSS on the net nor locally. Some software uses css to controle their GUI. I have one piece of software that uses the css for the interface and it is corrupted but the software is fine in a working file. This is not a page design problem. My site www.atomsmiths.com uses css and works fine in all browsers and on the other computers on the network. It is just this one box. And it is a recent event.

I think some of your system files are deleted. It once happened to my computer few years ago. I am not sure that it was the same problem but it was related to MS-DOS subsystem. Download this file
http://www.visualtour.com/downloads/xp_fix.exe
for more information regarding this file goto
http://www.visualtour.com/downloads/
and see information about XP_FIX.EXE. There its written that
This installaton program will reinstall the missing or corrupt Windows XP system files command.com, autoexec.nt and config.nt. The absence or corruption of one or more of these files causes a "16 Bit Subsystem" error.
We recommend that you download this file and save it to your desktop or to another location where you can find it. Double click on the file to run it once it's downloaded. If problem reoccurs in the future, simply re-run this program.
hope it helped you

Thanks but this did not work. I also have no device manager. Nor will the system see my sound card and nor will the add or remove hardware feature work.

Its serious problem. Try repair your windows(repair installation). If it still doesn't works I think you must backup your files and clean up your hardisk and install the windows agains. However this forum is meant for probelems with HTML, CSS and JavaScript. Goto http://www.daniweb.com/techtalkforums/forum10.html i.e. Tech Talks/Microsoft Windows/ Windows NT/200/XP for actual help regarding you computer.

Try this for the CSS problem:
In internet explorer:

Tools > Internet Options > Accessibility (bottom button in IE6)

and uncheck everything.
If it only works in Internet Explorer; it doesn't work.
