Hi All,

I am facing problem with my laptop Dell inspiron 6000, Operating system XP Home edition.

When I press the start button, indicators on the key board blinks for a few seconds and the laptop stops booting up. I have seen that thumping on the laptop once or twice , will then get the laptop to start.
I have tried replacing the battery as well.

I do not have warranty on my machine.Any ideas would be helpful.

Thanks in advance,
Machu

Well, thumping it is never a good idea, but it does point you in the direction of something being loose or sticking.

My first thought was maybe the HDD.
