Hello. I am webmaster of a church webpage CLGI.org. I have built a locations page that lists all of our church locations and allows the user to click on a column title to sort by that column. Really, it's a collection of 11 static pages linked to look dynamic. I would like to convert to a database-driven page that automatically populates the location page with information stored in mysql. The site itself is hosted on SBC Yahoo. Our testbed site where any product will first be installed, CLGI2.org is on a linux server with standard cpanel. Both use mysql. I am slowly learning mysql, but will not be able to complete this task by our Christmas deadline. Developer will use own resources to develop code and database and host initial demo. Then we will work together to port over to the testbed site for committee approval, then install on clgi.org. You will retain rights to your work, but development price will include license to use it on all CLGI associated websites, present and future.
1. I need someone to develop relational database and accompanying webpages to receive, store, and display, and update the church information. Currently displayed information is only a subset of the 23 fields which I track for each entry (all will need to be stored). You can see the existing page here. We want to retain the current format, but also offer a "mailing label display option" users can click on to get the list of churches in an easier to read and easier to cut-and-past format (here). Not only must the database be used to populate this page, but also to populate the jurisdictional page listings (which show the churches under each jurisdiction). You can view one of these jurisdictional pages here and the jurisdictional church listing here.
2. You'll notice near the top two links, Add/Update Church Info and Add/Update Jurisdictional Info. Both lead to rather cumbersome update forms. Another part of this project will be making these forms a little more user friendly, with users entering the data which will update the database once approved by an admin. When a user submits an update, an alert is sent to one or more admins. The form pages will blend seamlessly with the rest of the site- ie have the same look and feel.
3. The third part of the project is development of an admin page which allows non-web-designers to easily review the submissions for their individual areas of responsibility, and then approve the change. Admins may be responsible for one or more jurisdiction, and they need to see only the info for their jurisdiction. To facilitate this, the webmaster's version of the admin page needs to allow creation of sub-admins and assign them to one or more jurisdictions. I am envisioning for the sub-admins a simple page (with the same look and feel as the rest of the site) where they can login, view new entries and updates, click the ones they approve, hit "approve" and be done. Even if an admin has more than one jurisdiction to manage, they will only have to log in once and see all entries.

Alternatively, you may send a quote, portfolio, and references via email. I realize that "you get what you pay for" and it is unreasonable to expect someone to put forth a lot of work without proper compensation, but please consider that we are a volunteer web committee and funds are extremely limited. And please do not give us a quote without portfolio and references. We are willing to let you take a stab at it, to increase your skill level and build your portfolio, for free. But if we are to pay, then we will need to see evidence of your skills up front.
