I've got SSL Certificate for my own site and getting advantages of it.

I am currently setting up a website and wanted to install a SSL cert. However, currently the i've set up the site on a staging environment. I dont want to get a cert from a third party for my staging site, i heard that there is a way of creating a ssl cert without a certificate server, do you know anything about that?
