Question CDROM icon missing

  #1
Dec 30th, 2006
Ok I am actually posting two issues in despair as I have given up all hope!

1. My CDROM does not show up in My computer or on desktop. However it is working properly, shows up in the BIOS, does not ave a ! or ? in Device Manager and is there.
I can only think it's a fault with the registry.
However in the all the fixes that take me to the bit about lower and upper filter values these do not appear in the line they are supposed to.
Also things like media player etc still run the CD's as normal.
I don't get it!!

2. Maybe not completely unconnected is this all started when I tried to fix the problem with not having any autorun on this PC.
I went into registry and changed the CDrom value to 1 as indicated in all the guides. I have changed the settings back and now have lost the CDrom icon and still have no auto run ( Or is it called autoplay.)

I am not technical this has come by self-teaching so please in any reply speak slowly and loudly and assume total ignorance

Thank-you in advance,
