Position Title: Expert Data Architect
Job Description: This is a contract position for a leading financial institution located in the Northern Virginia area. This position is for an Expert Data Architect who will provide technical leadership to full lifecycle development of the reporting data architecture. This is a principal position that requires extensive experience in analysis, design, operation and troubleshooting of large scale database systems.
Responsibilities:
- Provide Oracle expertise to various development and Infrastructure teams, including:
a. Developing data strategy to support business needs
b. Leading/consulting on high-level database design for new, major reporting applications
c. Leveraging expertise in Oracle technology to provide innovative solutions to challenging system problems
- Define and maintain database infrastructure and architecture to deliver accurate, consistent, auditable and scalable data reporting solutions
- Review, analyze and improve overall SIR system design and implementation to ensure:
a. Adherence of standards and processes
b. Delivery of stable and scalable systems to support current system needs and future system growth
c. Risk mitigation and controls are in place to comply with corporate risk management principles
- Clear understanding and communication of the technology aspects of database domains to all stakeholders
Qualifications: Must have:
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.
- 5+ years development lead or architect experience in large scale, enterprise level, database systems using Oracle technologies.
- 10+ years of combined experience in modeling, designing, developing and managing large Oracle databases.
- Experience in Oracle database development processes, best practices and performance tuning. Extensive knowledge of and experience with SQL, PL/SQL, database infrastructure, replication, backup and recovery strategies.
- Extensive knowledge of and direct experience with Data Warehousing, ETL and reporting systems. Familiarity of COTS ETL and reporting packages like: Ab Initio, Crystal Reports, Business Objects.
- Excellent documentation, presentation, oral and written communication skills along with the ability to work independently and handle ambiguity effectively.
- Basic knowledge of general enterprise information technologies, such as: security, storage, network, UNIX, development methodology and design patterns.
Nice to have:
- Experience with consulting to internal and/or external clients.
- Effective relationship management, negotiations, customer service, problem solving, conflict management, and communication (verbal and written) skills.
- Strong multi-tasking and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently as well motivate and empower team members effectively is required.
- Strong understanding of mortgage business concepts with experience in financial or mortgage technology is desired.
