  #2
Jun 6th, 2004
No one seems to be helping me out

In the mean time, I have downloaded and ran the following programs:

Spybot Search and Destroy found stuff and fixed most of it still has 13 problems that it says it can't fix

Ad-aware 6.0 it found 4 things, it said that it fixed them.

Registry Mechanic - Purchased this so get it to fix everything that it found to be a problem. it said that it fixed everything it put things in quarantine, and i then deleted them.

did everything that i see that you tell people to do, but still getting the system 32 directory window popping up at startup.

please help

i have attached a fresh log file from Hijackthis

Hi. Sorry for the delay, been getting my beauty sleep :cheesy: .

Close all (browser) windows & rescan with hijackthis. When the scan is finished place a check in the box to the left of the following entries & click 'fix checked' :

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {549B5CA7-4A86-11D7-A4DF-000874180BB3} - (no file)
O2 - BHO: (no name) - {FDD3B846-8D59-4ffb-8758-209B6AD74ACC} - (no file)

O3 - Toolbar: (no name) - {62999427-33FC-4baf-9C9C-BCE6BD127F08} - (no file)

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [CTHelper] CTHELPER.EXE
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [KernelFaultCheck] %systemroot%\system32\dumprep 0 -k

Disable creatives CTHELPER.exe as it can use 100% of your CPU.

Switch off portAOL.exe as it's not needed, just shows you how to set up your network.

Download LSPfix from here double click to run it, then click Finish.

Cannot see anything there to indicate why this would be happening. What exactly does the message say on startup? I have to go out for a while & will check back later. In the meantime, try running a google search for the exact error message you are getting.

It doesn't say anything.....the directory just opens up and remains open on my screen?

Something has to be calling it up don't you think, why would the directory open up like that when i'm restarting?

All i've been doing is just closing the window, it's been happening for about 2 weeks now, i finally decided to talk with someone about it, because i kind of figured that something or someone was attacking my computer?

Thanks.....Tina

Can you please post a startup log from HijackThis. How to:
Open HJT select Config\Misc Tools place a check in the following boxes: List also minor sections (full). List empty sections (complete) & hit Generate startupList log. Copy log here.

Crunchie

You going to be around this evening? I'm at work so I can't do this right now.

I'm usually home around 6pm cst.

I appreciate your continued help.

I also wanted to give you a list of some things that I am not able to delete, but I will have to do this when I get home as well. something about "DSO Exploit" and some "DAP" ads that ad-aware can't delete or fix.

Also, I was wondering how you go about changing your browser to OPERA?

Basically don't want to have this happen again, and seems to be what I have read it won't if I start using OPERA as my browser.

I will be checking this thread all day today, so post away.

Thanks again.

Tina

I am in Australia GMT + 8 hours & am about to go to bed as I get up at 5am. (Work) So I won't be able to get back until 2morrow evening, my time.
Just download Opera with java & install it. You will be asked if you want to install it for multiple users (it is set up as default to do this so you need to uncheck the box if you don't want to).
In my opinion it's ugly to look at out of the box, but there are so many skins available you can have it look how you want. If you install it compare how mine looks to the default skin & you will see what I mean.
My Opera.
