Hi Crunchie

I deleted those things except when i went into safemode i couldnt find those folders, but isnt that because they were the things that i deleted previously. Also, i couldn't find spywarebegone to delete it, but i fixed it in hijack this. I was also wondering if this was the reason my msn messenger didnt work.

Those folders should have been there. You may have to do a system search for them. How are your original problems?

heres the new log. well, my msn still doesn't work on this computer but i have seen the message "the page cannot be displayed" however, this time without the search the web title. instead it says "cannot find server", but i think that this only happens when i move to secure parts of websites, for example in amazon it comes up when i try and sigh in using a "secure server", but i can sign in using a "standard server"

Nothing bad in that log. Try putting MSN into your trusted zone in Internet Options.

I would try www.msn.com & see how you go. Am not 100% sure.

Try opening another user account & see if that works, otherwise you may have to uninstall/reinstall messenger.

i tried uninstalling it and then reinstalling it but it still didn't work. so tried to log-on to an msn site like www.hotmail.com and www.passport.com but when i tried to log -on the page "this page cannot be displayed" appeared. the same page that comes up with ebay etc.

If this seems to happen only for secure areas of sites (such as the "payment page" at ebay that you mentioned), I check through the security settings in you Internet Options control panel; something there (SSL settings perhaps) might have gotten altered somehow.

Also- can you get to Microsoft's Automatic Update site? If so, make sure you install all of the lastest patches/upgrades for IE and Windows itself.

If you can download another browser such as Netscape, Opera, or Firefox, do so and see if the problem occurs there as well.
