"The page cannot be displayed" KEEPS ON APPEARING.

Hi, the message "The page cannot be displayed" constantly appears when i move to the payment part in online shopping sites like EBay, Amazon etc. The page is called "Search The Web - Incorrect Error Page" and i think that this may have something to do with it.

My MSN Messenger also hasn't been working since this problem has been appearing and i think that they are connected.

Any help will be greatly appreciated.

That seriously sounds like the result of spyware/hijackware.

I'm moving this to our Security forum. Have a read through other posts there and follow the spyware detection/removal instructions posted by our security experts crunchie and caperjack; repost here if you still have issues after that.

Please do not contact me by email or PM for help. We're all volunteers here, and only have so much free time to dedicate to our efforts.

However, if I've been working on a thread with you already, and seem to have "forgotten" your thread, please do send me a message. I try not to let things slip through the cracks, but it does happen sometimes.

Sure,

The first thing to do is to have a read through the following thread:

http://www.daniweb.com/techtalkforums/thread5690.html

In it you'll links to spyware detection/removal utilities, instruction on their usage, and tips to help you avoid getting reinfected. The utilities are free; download them, read their documentation, and run them. Repost here when/if you run into problems or simply have questions.

Hi
i've just been reading through some other threads in this forum about Hijack This. Their problem seems to be similar to mine, would 'Hijack This' help me?

Both Adaware & Spybot Search & Destroy are free programs & will remove most of the malware on your computer. Download the following first & set them up as explained then post back if you are still having problems .

Download & instal Adaware from here
& update it B4 scanning.
In settings under 'scanning,' have it set to
'scan within archives,'
'scan active processes,'
'scan registry,'
'deepscan registry'
'scan my IE Favourites for banned URL's,'
'scan my host's file.'
In 'tweaks' under 'scanning engine' set it to 'unload recognised processes during scanning.'
Also in 'tweaks' under 'cleaning engine' set it to 'Automatically try to unregister objects prior to deletion' & 'let Windows remove files in use at next reboot.'
Select 'activate in-depth scan' before starting scan.
When the scan is finished select 'next.'
Remove what it finds by placing a check in the box to the left of the object. Reboot

Download & instal Spybot S&D from here Update it B4 scanning. Go into settings & have it check for Beta releases also & download if available.
After the scan is complete, have spybot fix everything marked RED.
On the page that first opens when you start Spybot there is an option to immunise, you should do this. In the immunise section there is also a link to download Spywareblaster. This program will prevent the install of bad activex controls that it has knowledge of. Download that & you can keep it updated by selecting the same link that you use to download it. Reboot

Hi Crunchie

I did the things that you told me to do. Also previously to reading your message, i downloaded hijack this and downloaded the files which included "search200". Could you see if there are any more problems by reading my log?

Thanx

Advise you to uninstall spywarebegone. See this site for the reason: http://www.netrn.net/archives2/000550.html

Close all (browser) windows & rescan with hijackthis. When the scan is finished place a check in the box to the left of the following entries & click 'fix checked' :

O2 - BHO: (no name) - {65B6AC6C-105F-0610-AFC3-4F84C320B03B} - C:\PROGRA~1\COOLDR~1\Amenfunk.dll

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Itch Hope] C:\PROGRA~1\SPAMAC~1\Flap browse.exe
O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [Spyware Begone] c:\freescan\freescan.exe -FastScan

Reboot into safe mode following the instructions here & navigate to & delete the following if found:

C:\PROGRA~1\COOLDR~1< folder
C:\PROGRA~1\SPAMAC~1< folder
c:\freescan< folder

Reboot normally.
