I am very interested in this position. I meet or exceed all the requirements.
I studied Computer Science at the graduate level.
I programmed Stratus computers under VOS for many years.
I know C extremely well both as a programmer and a trainer.
I know TCP/IP very well along with many other communication protocols.
I am a US citizen.
I have lots of Unix and Oracle experience as well.
Below is more detail letter explaining my relevant experience.
My first Stratus engagement was with a Detroit-based medical billing
start-up where I helped develop the code on Stratus under VOS using
COBOL (ugh!).
I then undertook a development-and-support engagement with the Macomb
County Board of Realtors where I ported a COBOL application to C on
Stratus equipment under VOS. I continued to run and support this
system for several years.
At World Computer (Michigan), I led a 25-person team in the port of
their financial system software (credit unions) from Data General
Eclipse to Stratus VOS. The system was written in C.
I worked on Stratus under VOS at Rouge Steel (then a division of Ford
Motor Company) for several years. I did many projects there. For
example, I led a project to automate Rouge Steel's chemistry labs
(real-time components, lots of end-user screens, and a lot of data
storage). I personally designed the system, coded much of it, and
implemented it under VOS using C, VOS file system, and Oracle. The
system interfaced with many users and many different types of devices
such as spectrometers using a variety of communication protocols.
Subsequently, I designed and developed another system at Rouge Steel
for communicating and obtaining data from robotic devices that tested
steel samples. This system, too, was implemented under VOS in C.
Rouge then asked me to bid on a system for automating their cold-
rolled steel processing plant with real-time access to a host of
different types of heavy industrial (and quite dumb) machines such as
slitters, annealers, and cold rollers. This system required about 50
work-stations for operators. To communicate all over the plant, at the
office, and to the computer center, I wrote drivers for TCP/IP
devices. This system was written in C under Unix and also communicated
with legacy systems hosted on an IBM mainframe.
In addition to designing systems and coding, I also constructed a
highly-successful C programming course for professional programmers
and gave it to several hundred such software engineers. I also trained
numerous engineers and software developers and technical support
people at Ford Motor Company, again with materials that I developed.
I have worked in Japan, Hong Kong, Johannesburg, London, and Tel Aviv,
in addition to all the work I have done in the US.
Here are some other relevant points to note about me:
1. I am able to travel all over the world to undertake projects
(including NH).
2. I am extremely reliable. I am there when I say I will be there.
3. I am a workhorse. I like projects with impossible deadlines. Then I
like to beat those deadlines with hi-quality product.
4. I am a crackerjack software system designer and developer with an
eye for end-user usability.
5. I love to code, code, and code, and I like it to work right the
first time.
Okay, I think you have the picture. Please contact me and we can
discuss this further. You can reach me at csfo...@yahoo.com, or on
Skype at chaim.forst. Currently, I am working overseas, but I am in
the US frequently, so it won't be hard to meet face-to-face should we
decide to pursue this opportunity.
Thank you for taking the time to read this and for considering me.
Sincerely,
C S Forst
