Internet Explorer is probably tripping over the driver for your sound card. Start the computer in safe mode (by holding down the Ctrl key whilst it boots), go to "System" in Control Panel and disable the driver. Then reboot and try to download a more up to date driver for the sound card from the manufacturer's website.
