Are you referring to the Microsoft Windows Server 2003 campaign that's been running the past couple of days? I unfortunately don't have the option of just kicking out an ad campaign. Whether it's a campaign I negotiated directly, or through a site representation company, all advertising campaigns are pre-negotiated signed contracts with the advertiser.

Eh, I don't find anything wrong with them.
They can be interesting sometimes..

I am nothing special; of this I am sure. I am a common man with common thoughts, and I’ve led a common life. There are no monuments dedicated to me and my name will soon be forgotten, but I’ve loved another with all my heart and soul, and to me, this has always been enough. -The Notebook

Just use Firefox and AdBlock Plus. I see no ads now
Also, from donation page:
"DaniWeb is a 100% free community for IT professionals like you. Revenue comes from selling advertising campaigns. However, it takes a lot of resources, servers, bandwidth, and manpower to run a site as big as we are. On top of that, the value of standard forms of advertising such as banners is rapidly declining in favor of DHTML, layered, flyout, fullscreen, and video ads."

By "flashing and obnoxious" ads I was referring to the ones that are like "win a free iPod" and "punch the monkey" and literally flash. I never meant to include ad campaigns for Microsoft in that group.

I don't mind ones that play sound when you click on them (or, in certain circumstances, make a little noise when they're hovered over, as long as it's quick and the sound stops when you move the mouse off of them). ... But I don't like ones that play sound automatically. I lost a few campaigns over this in the past and even had a company back out after paying me because their ad had sound and I refused to run it.
WaltP, if it makes you feel any better, each ad campaign only lasts for a specific duration of time. No particular ad will be around forever.
