Hi,

Im an 11th grader in high school and I create websites for small businesses around my little town for some extra cash, so I am truly a very very very beginner! lol...

Anyways, I created this site a couple months ago for a wood floor business around here, so I was wondering if could give me a few tips on how to make it appear less amature-ish and more professional??

Thanks so much!!!

I guess the thing that makes it look slightly unproffesional is the logo. More importantly, the font. Lose the texture and shadow, and use the same font as the navbar.

In terms of design... I just had a couple of ideas ... do you need to have the navigation (Pictures, products and Contact us) at the top and at the side? Maybe you could have the nav just at the side (so they dont fight for attention) and add some interactivity (rollover states maybe)? This might also enable you to make greater use of the top banner space using more/another/a landscape style image, making it more visually appealing.

Don't use HTML? ha but anyways so to fix that one up... Have a top frame with the logo, then in the middle have a pic of a nice looking home with some floors they sell on the right, have that pic fade so it is on the right and a brownish tan color is on the left. Draw some lines, etc. random stuff on there from the pic onto the color. Write the companies mission statement on the colored part in clear font. Keep the menu where it is but make it the same bgcolor as the middle part with the mission statement. Top frame should just have the logo and their motto. Anyways it is not a bad site so don't be so hard on yourself. That is a lot better than what I could design at 16! Maybe what I said makes sense, maybe it doesn't just tryin to give you some ideas.

<----- Oh yeah pass some work this way! ahhh I'm broke. . Oh yeah looking at the site yet again. I like how the wood separates the menu, etc.. that looks good. Maybe use that and then have the other parts fade to an off white <table background='fade.jpg'... Adding a little color I think would give it the edge it's missing. Anyways great site keep up the good work, hope I helped a little bit!

Instead of this:
"We estimate, evaluate, and perform hardwood flooring installation and finishing, from standard to custom, small and large projects. "

How about this:
"We estimate, evaluate and perform hardwood flooring installations and finishings. No job is too small or too large."

Instead of this:
"Old flooring can be repaired, refinished, or spruced up to accomodate various levels of use and appeal."

How about this:
"Old flooring can be repaired, refinished or touched up to make it look and work like new."

Instead of this:
"We can provide various breeds of domestic and imported hardwoods that accomodate demand for beauty, practicallity and function."

How about this:
"We offer a variety of affordable domestic and imported hardwoods to satisfy the desire for beauty, practicality and function."

Instead of this:
"Our installers and finishers are experienced craftsmen with years of knowledge dedicated to hardwood flooring."

How about this:
"Our staff of 3 dedicated craftsmen bring 45 years of top-quality hardwood flooring experience to work each day and so your project is worry-free."

Obviously, get the real numbers from the owner. ;-)

Keep up the good work !
