Is there still hope for my computer... or just time to reformat/reinstall?

I've had this laptop for about two years now, and its never given me any problems up until recently. Its a Dell Inspiron 8200... P4/2.2GHz... 512MB RAM... Runnin WinXP Home Edition SP1.
Lately, I've started experiencing several problems.
First, I got hit hard with the w32.pinfi virus. I'm not sure exactly how bad it got, but I'd estimate 700-1000 infections, maybe even more. Right now, I've got about 450 files in quarantine just from this virus. I've ran the clnpinfi program on it, and my definitions are updated, but its still giving me fits.
Second, I've got the bridge.dll problem. I've read a few sites, including this one and pestcontrol, but I can't figure out how to get rid of it.
Sometimes programs have trouble installing. It will get about halfway through installation and error out.
This is probably the most frustrating, I get the BSOD about once a day, no idea why.
And its been running a lot slower. I'm used to this computer booting up, and as soon as I log on, its ready to go. Now, after I boot up, I log onto my profile, and it takes at least 3-4 minutes for everything to load before I can really mess with it.
I was thinking of just saying "screw it" and re-installing Windows, but if I can get around it I would. Let me know your opinion and if you have solutions to any of this.

usually when I get hit hard I just re-format and re-install but it's not the best way of going about things, perhaps we should wait and see other opinions.

I would first try a few thingz, it won't hurt

Download & instal Adaware from here
& update it before scanning.
In settings under 'scanning,' have it set to
'scan within archives,'
'scan active processes,'
'scan registry,'
'deepscan registry'
'scan my IE Favourites for banned URL's,'
'scan my host's file.'
In 'tweaks' under 'scanning engine' set it to 'unload recognised processes during scanning.'
Also in 'tweaks' under 'cleaning engine' set it to 'Automatically try to unregister objects prior to deletion' & 'let Windows remove files in use at next reboot.'
Select 'activate in-depth scan' before starting scan.
When the scan is finished select 'next.'
Remove what it finds by placing a check in the box to the left of the object. Reboot
Download & instal Spybot S&D from here. Update it before scanning.
After the scan is complete, have spybot fix everything marked RED.
On the page that first opens when you start Spybot there is an option to immunise, you should do this. In the immunise section there is also a link to download Spywareblaster. This program will prevent the install of bad activex controls that it has knowledge of. Download that & you can keep it updated by selecting the same link that you use to download it. Reboot
Go here for an on-line scan & set it to autoclean for you.
Try this scan as well.
Download HijackThis from here & unzip it into it's own, permanent folder, (Not a temporary folder or the desktop & not directly on your hard drive).
If you have anything disabled in MsConfig, please re-enable it/them.
Start HJT & with all browser windows closed, press the scan button. When the scan is finished the scan button will change to save. Save the log to a text file, copy the entire contents of the text file & paste it into the body of your post. DO NOT FIX ANYTHING YET. Most of what is there is necessary for the running of your system.

I don't see anything bad there. How much RAM do you have? You have a lot of stuff running there. Go to www.blackviper.com & follow the instructions there for what to remove & disable from the auto start menu.
Also:
Go to system properties (right click MyComputer > properties) > Advanced tab > under startup and recovery click settings > under System failure make sure "Write an event to the system log" is checked AND that "Automatically restart" is UNchecked. Then under *write debugging info* select (none) > Click "OK" and reboot.
If you crash again, write down the entire STOP message.
